I moved from the SF Bay Area to Paris a few months ago, and can't stop dreaming of burritos. French food is amazing, but there's not a real Mexican place in sight...I wish FedExing from the Mission would work, but it might get kind of messy.
Sigh.
Sigh.

Re: Burrito withdrawal
Tue, August 17, 2004 - 4:59 PMI know it's doubtful that you will find "real" Mexican food across the pond, but I remember seeing two "Mexican" places in Paris when I was there a few years ago. One was in the area of St. Germaine, and the other was by that odd archetectural creation, whose name escapes me...huge bldg, lots of art exhibits, lots of tubes and things. Come on, somebody help me out here...! The restuarant was in the park area, not the square by the actual bldg.
I think one of the restaurants was called "Indiana" of all things. Again, having trouble recalling names today, so the other one is lost in a fog...
Wish I could be more helpful! Good luck! -

Wed, August 18, 2004 - 6:52 AMI feel your withdrawl pains. The funny thing is, FedExing WILL work. Just have a friend freeze the burrito and send it. I don't think you really need to freeze a veggie burrito. -

Re: Burrito withdrawal
Thu, February 3, 2005 - 4:57 AMThere is sadly no way to re-create the amazing concoctions of San Jose, El Faro, La Taqueria, El Farolito, or any of SF's other fine burrito palaces... especially in France.
What I have done for the past couple years (in France and in Germany, another burrito wasteland...) is bring home a few cans of frijoles in my suitcase along with some tortillas. The latter are now available sometimes in hypermarches. Salsa and guacamole are a staple in my house anyway, creme fraiche will do for sour cream, and you can marinate and cook your own meat. It's hard to find cheese that will not over power the burrito, so I usually go without. It's not a solution, but it's held me over for a long time...
Courage, tu en auras besoin!!

Thu, March 3, 2005 - 10:34 AMThanks for the info, Alexis...but I'm back in CA now, wallowing in great burritos!
Finally found tortillas in the weird-foreign-foods aisle at Monoprix, though, so at least I could make quesadillas during my last couple of months in Paris. -

Tue, March 8, 2005 - 3:37 PMBut if I'm hungry enough, the burrito isn't around long enough for any wallowing. :-) -

Re: Burrito withdrawal
Wed, April 27, 2005 - 3:38 PMI've molested a burrito once.. it was in a Taco Bell it had a slit down the middle and I went full face into it.. it was all over my chin... everywhere... the burrito didn't know what hit it... what didn't help was the sour cream I had added... the moment was priceless...
